Indian Wedding Mehndi Party

Indian Wedding Mehndi Party

When Gabriela & Karjeet contacted me for their Mehndi party, I was so excited to be part of an Indian wedding in Puerto Rico! In Mehndi ceremonies, henna is applied to the bride before the wedding day. It’s also a moment to give general good wishes of prosperity and wellness to the bride. Only G&K’s family gathered for this part and their eldest grandparent gave them blessings. There was a lot of gift giving and delicious food sharing (of course).

After the bride had alta dye (red ‘stain’) applied to her feet, the party or Sangeet began. Friends arrived to Eter by sundown to join this part of the celebration. Women took turns for their own henna (I did too!) while everybody enjoyed the view and cocktails. The night ended with Gabriela & Karjeet’s loved ones joining in song and dance to celebrate the new bond between families. It was truly beautiful to see!
